A few years ago I was visiting one of the Feeding Programs in Zambia that Heart for the World sponsored through a local church there. It was beautiful to see the children being fed and taught the Word of God. I began asking some of the kids the question, “What is your dream?” At first they had a hard time answering that. But then one girl said she wanted to be a teacher, another wanted something else, and we went on and on.

Suddenly I began to see, as it were, lights turning on and shining through their eyes. Passion was flowing, especially when we affirmed that we saw them fulfilling even greater things than they could imagine. We explained how they were God’s Masterpiece, designed for an incredible purpose that God had for them. We shared that the Pastor, their friends, and all of us who sponsor this program, were here because we knew that they were made to fulfill an amazing dream.
As I walked away, it struck me that what I saw was hope rising in them. Hope is what the Holy Spirit uniquely gives in people’s hearts as they come to Jesus and are shown and taught God’s Word and hear about His plans. Someone said hope is far more than wishing. Hope is a certain inner assurance that the future is going to be much better than the past, and we will have the ability and support to help make it that way.
Romans 15:13 in the New Living Translation says that “God will overflow us with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.” Lives change and the world changes when we bring hopes to hearts.
